Marjolein Newman
Specialts Speech & Language Therapist
Marjolein (Mar) is a Specialised Speech and Language therapist who provides high quality & evidenced based speech and language therapy services for children at primary and secondary school age. Mar graduated from City University in 2016. She also holds a Masters in International Relations (2003) from the University of Kent at Canterbury, and a BA in Communications (2001) from the University of Louisiana at Monroe (USA). Mar's experience includes running a specialist resourced provision at a mainstream secondary school, and she has experience with managing a varied clinical caseload. Mar provides therapeutic interventions such as Talkabout for Teenagers, Lego Therapy, the SCIP programme, the LINKS programme, social stories and comic strips, Visualising and Verbalising, Word Aware, Joffe Vocabulary Enrichment Programme & Narrative Intervention Programme, Semantics Links, Colourful Semantics, Talking Mats, and Mindmaps. She also has experience in training teachers and teaching assistants on Speech Language and Communication Needs, and ensures work is appropriately differentiated for children in the classroom. Mar's specialist interests include developmental language disorder, social communication difficulties ( including Autism), bilingualism and working with teenagers. She works closely with families and other professionals to meet each child/young person’s specific need(s) ensuring evidenced based practise. Mar is passionate about speech and language therapy and ensures to make therapy sessions fun, and helps children to meet their speech and language targets while building self-confidence in the children she works with. Marjolein is a Certified Member of the Royal College of Speech and Language Therapists (CertMRCSLT), Registered member of the Health Professionals Council (HCPC )& Member of the Association of Speech and Language Therapists in Independent Practise (ASLTIP). She is also a member of Mainstream CEN & Secondary CEN ( Clinical Excellence Network). Mar is bilingual speaking English & Dutch. In her spare time, Mar enjoys yoga, swimming, running and spending time with her two boys (aged 8 & 13) & husband and friends
